Snow days prompt graduation date changes

Garden City Public Schools has moved the dates of graduation for the Class of 2024 due to the number of snow days that the district has used this school year, a decision  announced in a letter that was mailed January 30 from Dr. Mike Dominguez, USD 457 Superintendent.

The district will continue to follow the Board approved calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. This means the last day of school will still be held on May 23.

The graduation ceremony for Garden City Achieve will be May 18, and the graduation ceremony for Garden City High School will be May 19.

The date changes needed to be made to comply with state graduation requirements. The district must provide 1086 hours of instruction for seniors to graduate from school.

The high school principals will provide more details to students and parents on the graduation ceremonies at each of the schools, as the district gets closer to the events.

The safety of students and staff is the district’s number one priority and will always be the basis for any decision to amend the school day. The district works to meet its mission of providing a quality education for responsible citizens.
