GCHS music students advance to state contest

Garden City High School music students traveled to Dodge City for Regional Solo/Small Ensemble contest on April 6. 

There were a total of 26 events, 23 solos and three ensembles at the regional contest. Students who received a “I” rating advanced to the state competition in Topeka on April 27.

The GCHS band soloists and ensembles that received a “I” rating will advance to state competition in Topeka on April 27th. 

GCHS soloists who will advance to state include: Sebastian Bonilla, Trombone; Seth Palacio, Bass Clarinet; Ivan Rivas, Trumpet; Evelyn Arroyo, Horn; Angel Robledo, Flute; Luis Vasquez, Euphonium; Ezequiel Lopez, Clarinet; Luis Martinez, Alto Saxophone; Pablo Aguilar, Tenor Saxophone; Emma Banwell, Trumpet; and Jacob Pammenter, Snare Drum.

Ensembles who received a “I” rating include: Saxophone Trio – Pablo Aguilar, Luis Martinez, Adriana Montoya; Flute Trio – Angel Robledo, Aiden Valdivia, Raquel Cuevas; and Brass Quartet – Evelyn Arroyo, Emma Banwell, Gabriel Buruca, Kyle Miller

Soloists that received a “II” rating include: Juan Soto, Trumpet; Anabel Reyes, Clarinet; Aiden Valdivia, Alto Saxophone; Mario Fuentes, Bass Clarinet; Shelby Armstrong, Baritone Saxophone; Bradley Love, Trumpet; Savanna Reyes, Trumpet; Kailee Uribe, Clarinet; Kaylin Nonhof, Clarinet; Raquel Cuevas, Flute; and Law Htoo, Bass Trombone.

Hernan Rivas, tenor saxophone, received a “III” rating.

The GCHS band director is Ryan Partin.  Andrew Thiesen is the assistant band director.

The GCHS choir soloists and ensembles that received a “I” rating and are advancing to state include: Hayley Loya, Darby Reimer, Georgia Fahrmeier, Danica Galia, Chandler Hass Powers, Emma Lightner, Annalise York, Tristan Garcia, Santiago Rueda, Oliver Spencer, Juvey Chairez, Gustavo Hiracheta, and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Soloists and ensembles that received a “II” rating include: Keylyn Fonseca, Albert Revolorio, Raelee James-Crist, Arianna Martinez, Emma Haeck, Skylee Stark, Ian Houghawout, Anahi Martinez, Gracie Rivas, and The Buffalo Men Ensemble.

The GCHS choir director is Abigail Martinez.

The Garden City High School orchestra took 38 students to perform at the regional solo/ensemble festival. The students competed in 31 separate events: 2 ensembles and 29 solos.

The GCHS orchestra soloists and ensembles that received a “I” rating will advance to state competition in Topeka on April 27th. The soloists include: Law K Htoo, cello; Lexi Peters, violin; Devin Richters, bass; Kei Kempis, bass;  Ashley Kingstone, viola; Annalise York, Cello; Robert Smith, violin; Ailyn Arroyo, bass; Miko Cruz, viola; Arianna Martinez, violin; Wahler Taw, cello; Julia Facio, bass; and Julissa Martin, viola. 

The ensemble includes: String Quartet: Arianna Martinez, Xander Flores, Miko Cruz, Annalise York Chamber Orchestra: Arianna Martinez, Noemi Baltazar, Justin Contreras, Dakota Marcellus, Charlotte Cheney, Xander Flores, Madison Bennett, John Nguyen, Alex Argueta, Julissa Martin, Quinlynn Harms, Miko Cruz, Ashley Kingstone, Joseph Miller, Braidyn Orebaugh, Devin Richters, Julia Facio.

Soloists that received a “II” rating include: Quinlynn Harms, viola; Alexa Ceren, cello; Yaneli Armenta, viola; Mikey Oswalt, bass; Xander Flores, violin; Devin Pelton, violin; Braidyn Orebaugh, cello; Alex Argueta, violin; Charlotte Cheney, violin; Mila Sedgwick, cello; Mauro Lara, violin; Justin Contreras, violin; Noemi Baltazar, violin; Bryson Workman, viola; and Ava Galvan, viola.

Madison Bennett, violin, received a “III” rating.

The GCHS orchestra director is Summer Miller.
