The Garden City High School drama department won two Jester Awards for their production of “The Addams Family” on May 5 at the Theater of Wichita Jesters Awards Ceremony in Wichita.
GCHS won two awards for Costume Design for Anahi Martinez and Robyn Hilt, and Technical Achievement for Set Design for Izzy Frey. In addition, Izzy Frey also won a $1,000 scholarship.
GCHS Drama students, who were nominated for Overall Production, performed “When You’re an Adams” during the awards ceremony.
GCHS was nominated for a total of 12 Jester Awards. Additionally, another six regional honors were given to the production of “The Addams Family.”
Costumer and GCHS Fashion and Interior Design teacher, Robyn Hilt, was also nominated for Guest Design as Independence High School used many of the school’s costumes from “The Little Mermaid” for their production.

The Jester Awards showcase the next generation of musical theatre talent in Kansas. Each year, trained volunteer judges attend and evaluate dozens of performances.
This year, 62 judges viewed 134 performances of 44 productions, involving more than 2,700 students and 44 schools across the state of Kansas. The program began in Wichita, but now extends as far as Liberal, Hays, Topeka, and Pittsburg, in addition to the greater Wichita area.
