BusterCon to return for second time in February

BusterCon, western Kansas’ only comic convention, is set to make its highly anticipated return for a second year on February 15, 2025, at Garden City Community College (GCCC).

Building on the success of last year’s debut, this year’s event promises to be even larger and more exciting.

The inaugural BusterCon in 2024 was a one-day, family-friendly event that celebrated local talent, featuring artists, authors, and vendors from across Kansas.

The convention attracted 35 vendors and over 400 attendees, offering a variety of entertainment such as a cosplay showcase, costume contest, car show, campus club exhibits, and even an appearance by Darth Vader.

The overwhelmingly positive response from the community highlighted the need for an
event like BusterCon in western Kansas.

“Comic conventions have become integral to many communities, growing in popularity every
year. With the nearest similar events located in Wichita or Colorado Springs, BusterCon fills a unique gap, serving not only our students but also local families and fans,” said William Schlichter, Event Organizer and Assistant Professor at GCCC.

For its second year, BusterCon aims to grow significantly, with plans to feature 50 vendors and double the number of attendees. The event also serves as a fundraiser for bUSters United, a student and faculty-led organization dedicated to supporting the GCCC community. Proceeds from the event help fund initiatives such as providing meals for students who remain on campus during Thanksgiving break.

As BusterCon expands, organizers are actively seeking sponsors to help support the event’s growth and its mission to serve both students and the broader community. Sponsorship contributions will ensure that bUSters United can continue offering vital programs that enhance campus life, while also helping transform BusterCon into a major regional attraction.
