Garden City Community College (GCCC) recently announce record-setting enrollment growth for the Fall 2025 semester, highlighted by 24,335 credit hours, the largest in the college’s 106-year history.
This milestone surpasses last fall’s previous record of 23,118 credit hours, marking two consecutive years of historic enrollment achievement.
GCCC realized a 6.1% increase in credit hours over the past year, representing the largest single-year increase in college history. The college also realized a 4.9% increase in student headcount compared to Fall 2024, with a total of 2,221 students enrolled this semester.
Over the past five years, the college has grown by 16.1%, and by 4% over the past decade, demonstrating sustained momentum and success from its Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) initiatives.
This strong performance stands in sharp contrast to statewide trends. Across Kansas, community colleges collectively reported only a 0.8% increase in enrollment from last fall and a 10.7% decrease over the past 10 years.
“Seeing this kind of growth, particularly back-to-back years of record credit hour enrollment, is an incredible reflection of the hard work, dedication, and collaboration across our campus,” said Dr. Ryan Ruda, President of Garden City Community College. “It’s a direct result of the strategies we’ve implemented to enhance student engagement, expand access, and strengthen our programs to meet the needs of today’s learners.”
GCCC continues to serve as a cornerstone for education in Southwest Kansas and beyond. This fall, 53.6% of students hail from Finney County, while 80.1% originate from within Kansas. The college’s growing influence also extends well beyond state lines, with students representing 42 states and 39 countries worldwide, a reflection of GCCC’s expanding reach and reputation for excellence.
“Our mission for more than a century has been to open doors to education and opportunity,” Dr. Ruda added. “As we celebrate 106 years of service, these enrollment gains reaffirm that GCCC continues to be a place where students from all backgrounds can succeed.”
