
Garden City Public Schools orchestra students from Horace Good Middle School and Kenneth Henderson Middle School auditioned and made the Southwest Kansas Music Education Association Honor Orchestra.
The students include Violin 1: Ernesto Soltero. Violin 2: Annika Aquino, Lola Chmielewski, Cheryll Nei, and Jennifer Kwi. Viola: Hailey Unruh, Bethany Horton, Maynor Alas, and Richard Perez. Cello: Kaylee Leal, Emma Armstrong, and Jocelyn Guillen.
Haley Rotenberger directs the middle school orchestras at Garden City Public Schools.
The orchestra students will perform at a concert on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Dodge City Middle School.
GCHS Marching Stampede earns top rating
The Garden City High School Marching Stampede competed at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Marching Band Festival on Oct. 21 at Buffalo Stadium on the Garden City High School campus.
The band received a Superior – One rating at the competition. The other bands that competed in the event included Dodge City, Great Bend, Hays, and Liberal. Five judges were on hand to rate each performance.
This wrapped up the season for the Marching Stampede. During the season the band competed at the Central States Marching Festival at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan in early October. The band also competed at the Air Capital Marching invitational hosted at Goddard High School in September.
Ryan Partin is the band director, and Andrew Theisen is the assistant band director at Garden City High School.
