American Education Week Schedule
- Monday, Garden City Public Schools Foundation Day. The Garden City Public Schools Foundation Grant Squad will award mini grants to teachers around the school district. The Garden City Education Association (GCEA) also has plans during the week. On Monday Garden City Mayor Roy Cessna read a proclamation at Garden City High School to kick off the week. It was also “Healthy Mind and Body Day” and students were urged to wear appropriate school clothes/tennis shoes to promote a healthy lifestyle for a healthy mind.
- Tuesday, Nov. 18, Thank an Educator Day. This postcard activity allows students around the district to thank an educator. The GCEA is inviting parents and other community members to spend an hour or two with their students in class. It will be “Twinning Together Day” by matching clothes with another educator or student.
- Wednesday, Nov. 19, Healthy Snack Day. School board members and district administration will deliver healthy snack baskets across the district. The GCEA will encourage all students, community members and others to write a Thank You note to custodians, kitchen staff, secretaries, bus riders and all educational support staff. It is also crazy socks day.
- Thursday, Nov. 20, Wear Red for Ed Day. GCEA would like to recognize the impact all school staff have on our students and families. To show your support for public education and the difference educators make, wear red. Red for Ed: Supporting all educators who help students thrive. The Crystal Apple Awards Banquet will be held in the evening at the Clarion Inn. Outstanding teachers from Finney County will be officially recognized. This event is sponsored by the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce.
- Friday, Nov. 21, Flannel Day. Wear flannel in support of substitute educators everywhere. Substitutes fulfill a vital role in public education and often must fill in many ways.
