Garden City Community College (GCCC) recently received a donation of a John Deere Gator from American Implement to be used by the Sports Medicine department.
This utility vehicle will be used to transport sports medicine equipment during athletic events and injured student-athletes off of the field for more direct care/treatment.
This collaboration came to fruition thanks to the strong relationship between American Implement and the GCCC John Deere Ag Tech Program and the dedicated efforts of Chuck Pfeifer, Dean of Technical Education at GCCC, and Gabe Winger, John Deere Ag Tech Lead Instructor and Assistant Dean of Technical Education at GCCC.
“We value our partnership with Garden City Community College and the Ag Tech Program and thought this would be a great way to help support our local Community College conduct its operations,” said Brad Koster, Garden City Location Manager at American Implement. “GCCC does great things to help provide quality education to students who often move on towards successful careers in our local community, and we wanted to help give back and show our support.”
Allison Griffin, GCCC Head Athletic Trainer, expressed gratitude for American Implement’s generosity and the behind-the-scenes efforts of Winger and Pfeifer to make it possible.
“This donation affords our department a safer and faster method for set-up of games/practices/events, smoother transportation of injured athletes off the field, and a professional look on our sidelines,” she said. “I am consistently in awe of the philanthropic nature of this community and cannot put to words how much this means to us.”
The GCCC Sports Medicine Department offers the opportunity to gain clinical shadowing and hands-on skills and experience in the field of athletic training. Students of the program assist the certified athletic trainers in the treatment and care of student-athletes across 17 NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) teams on campus.
Students learn first-aid, emergency care, injury evaluation and treatment techniques, functional anatomy, and much more. Students provide medical coverage at practices and games and may have the opportunity to travel with our athletic teams to conference, regional, and national events.
