Garden City’s DFA milk powder plant earns ‘Best of Class’ honors at World Cheese Championship

Garden City’s Dairy Farmers of America plant recently earned Best of Class honors at the 2024 World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, Wisc.

Three of DFA’s milk powders and milk protein concentrates produced by DFA’s Ingredient Solutions Division, which manufactures dairy-based ingredients and innovative flavor solutions for customers in the food manufacturing and food service channels received top honors at the Wisconsin contest.

Garden City’s DFA plant earned Best of Class in skim milk powder, scoring 99.925 out of 100 points, according to a DFA social media post.

In addition, DFA’s plant in Portales, N.M., earned Best of Class in milk protein concentrate at 85% and third place in milk protein concentrate at 70%.

Hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, the World Championship Cheese Contest is considered the world’s premier technical cheese, butter and yogurt competition and attracts global dairy researchers and innovators every year.

Judges review and rate the flavor, body, texture, salt, color, finish, packaging, and other relevant attributes.
