Nelson receives nomination for Region 1 Kansas Teacher of the Year award
Brian Nelson, Garden City High School English Language Arts Teacher, was recognized at the Region 1 Kansas Teacher of the Year award ceremony in Salina on April 6 with a nomination for the award, which recognizes excellent teaching in elementary and secondary classrooms across the state.

WKCF awards grants to 25 area nonprofits
Western Kansas Community Foundation (WKCF) is awarding 25 area nonprofit organizations with grants totaling $89,875.28 from the Community Betterment Fund, the Kansas Health Foundation Children’s Fund, and various Field of Interest and Unrestricted funds for its March grant cycle.

GCHS Drama students nominated for ‘Jesters’
Garden City High School Drama Department students have received 12 Jester Award nominations for their production of “The Addams Family,” and another six regional honors were given to the school for the play.

New Mercer exhibit explores human condition
The Mercer Gallery is hosting Josh Knott and Josh Novak from Crowder College in Neosho, MO, through April 26, the final exhibition before the student art exhibition at the end of the month.
The “MUCBANG HURKLE DURKLE” exhibition consists of mixed-media prints by Knott containing grotesque imagery that explores the human condition.
