WKCF awards 70 scholarships from several funds
Western Kansas Community Foundation (WKCF) is awarding 70 scholarships from 17 different funds totaling $133,560 for the 2024/2025 school year, with more awards to be determined throughout the summer.

Crop Production Technology program to launch in the Fall at GCCC
Garden City Community College recently announced the launch of its new Crop Production Technology program starting in Fall 2024.
This program is a new, comprehensive pathway within the college’s Agriculture department offering students the opportunity to earn an associate in science degree, an associate in applied science degree, or one of three specialized certificates.

Summer Books-on-the-Bus program underway
The USD 457 Books-on-the-Bus program, better known as B.O.B., will visit various sites in Garden City during the week starting June 3. The Bookmobile’s last scheduled visit will be held on July 26. The Bookmobile will not visit the community July 1 – 5.

Burlington Stores donates $5,000 toward school supplies at Jennie Wilson Elementary School
Burlington Stores, a national discount retailer offering low prices every day on brand name merchandise for the entire family and home, has donated $5,000 through its partnership with the national non-profit organization, AdoptAClassroom.org, in celebration of its new store now open in Garden City at 2310 E. Kansas Avenue.

USD 457 retirees, longtime employees recognized
Garden City Public Schools honored long-time employees on May 23 at a Board of Education Staff Recognition Dinner.
Each year Garden City Public Schools proudly salutes all of its retiring employees and those who continue to serve the district after 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service.

Summer hours for Garden City Educational Support Center
The Garden City Public Schools Central Student Enrollment Office at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street, will change its days of operation during the summer. The office will be closed on Friday afternoons during the summer starting on June 7 through July 19.

Historic Fulton House open for summer visits
Anyone interested in stepping back in time 140 years can visit the William and Lettie Fulton House this summer in Garden City.
The Folk Victorian home, located southwest of the Finney County Historical Museum inside Lee Richardson Zoo, will be open 2-4:30 p.m. most Saturdays and Sundays, June 1 through Labor Day weekend. Admission is free.

Last day of school is Thursday for GC Schools
The last day of school for the 2023-24 school year for Garden City Public Schools will be Thursday, May 23. This will be a full day of school for students with normal starting and ending times. School will be out for the summer break at the end of the school day.

The Garden City Public Schools Summer Food Service program from June 3 – 27 will provide summertime meals to children and youth at various locations around the community.
