WKCF awards 70 scholarships from several funds
Western Kansas Community Foundation (WKCF) is awarding 70 scholarships from 17 different funds totaling $133,560 for the 2024/2025 school year, with more awards to be determined throughout the summer.

Summer Books-on-the-Bus program underway
The USD 457 Books-on-the-Bus program, better known as B.O.B., will visit various sites in Garden City during the week starting June 3.  The Bookmobile’s last scheduled visit will be held on July 26. The Bookmobile will not visit the community July 1 – 5.

Historic Fulton House open for summer visits
Anyone interested in stepping back in time 140 years can visit the William and Lettie Fulton House this summer in Garden City.
The Folk Victorian home, located southwest of the Finney County Historical Museum inside Lee Richardson Zoo, will be open 2-4:30 p.m. most Saturdays and Sundays, June 1 through Labor Day weekend. Â Admission is free.

New museum exhibit tells story of WWII soldier’s return
The Finney County Historical Museum has opened a new short-term exhibit in the Front Door Gallery, entitled “Coming Home.” Â
The display features Sgt. Gregory Knoll, a U.S. Army solider from Garden City whose remains were returned home last summer, 79 years after he lost his life in combat during World War II.

Forums this week to discuss school boundaries
Garden City Public Schools is holding public forums on what the Boundary Committee has been working on since February.Â
The forums will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18 at the Garden City High School Commons Area, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

Reservations open until April 17 for Historical Society banquet
Reservations are available until April 17 for the 2024 Finney County Historical Society Annual Banquet and Meeting, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the recently revised Finney County Pioneer Awards Program.
Reservations may be made at the Finney County Historical Museum, 403 S. Fourth Street, 620-272-3664.
The gathering is set for 6 p.m. April 27 in the Christian Life Center of the First Southern Baptist Church, 2708 N. Third Street in Garden City. Â
Dinner is $20 per person, payable by cash or check.

WKCF awards grants to 25 area nonprofits
Western Kansas Community Foundation (WKCF) is awarding 25 area nonprofit organizations with grants totaling $89,875.28 from the Community Betterment Fund, the Kansas Health Foundation Children’s Fund, and various Field of Interest and Unrestricted funds for its March grant cycle.

‘Petroglyphs’ presentation, discussion at GCCC
Garden City Community College will host “Petroglyphs of the Kansas Smoky Hills,” a presentation and discussion by Rex Buchanan at 6 p.m. April 24 in the Saffell Library Lobby and via Zoom.
