GCHS Senior wins national Shakespeare award
Pierre Madlangbayan, a senior from Garden City High School, took First Place in the People’s Choice Award and received $1,000 at the 2024 National Shakespeare competition for the second year in a row.
The People’s Choice Awards were announced during the ESU National Shakespeare Competition Finals held at Lincoln Center in New York City on April 15.

Middle School to present ‘Legally Blonde’ musical
Garden City Public Schools middle school students will present “Legally Blonde The Musical” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21 in Clifford Hope Auditorium on the Horace Good Middle School campus, 1412 N. Main Street.

Forums this week to discuss school boundaries
Garden City Public Schools is holding public forums on what the Boundary Committee has been working on since February.
The forums will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18 at the Garden City High School Commons Area, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

Nelson receives nomination for Region 1 Kansas Teacher of the Year award
Brian Nelson, Garden City High School English Language Arts Teacher, was recognized at the Region 1 Kansas Teacher of the Year award ceremony in Salina on April 6 with a nomination for the award, which recognizes excellent teaching in elementary and secondary classrooms across the state.

Garden City High School music students traveled to Dodge City for Regional Solo/Small Ensemble contest on April 6.
Students who received a “I” rating advanced to the state competition in Topeka on April 27.

GCHS Drama students nominated for ‘Jesters’
Garden City High School Drama Department students have received 12 Jester Award nominations for their production of “The Addams Family,” and another six regional honors were given to the school for the play.
