Western Kansas Community Foundation (WKCF) awarded 17 local nonprofit organizations with core grants totaling $51,825 for its November grant cycle.
The grants serve a wide variety of programs in the southwest Kansas region. The November grant cycle is the last of three grant cycles offered by Western Kansas Community Foundation each year.
Grant funding is pulled from the Community Betterment Fund and Kansas Health Foundation Children’s Fund, administered by WKCF, committed to benefiting community-based projects as well as programs targeted to benefit children in Southwest Kansas.
WKCF’s Program & Marketing Director Stacie Hahn said the grants were awarded “to address specific needs felt by the applying nonprofits, and as a reflection of the Foundation’s mission, which is to enrich western Kansas life through philanthropy, leadership and collaboration.” Distributions from the unrestricted funds contribute each year to the grants program at the Western Kansas Community Foundation.
The awards are as follows:
- 1. Chains Break “Tattoo Removal Treatments” – $3,000
- 2. Core Community Meade County “Core Community Meade County” – $1,500
- 3. Finney County Health Department “Community Baby Shower” – $5,000
- 4. Fowler Arts Council “Continuation of Flow Art Painting” – $3,280
- 5. Greeley County Public Library “Children’s Room Book Organizers” – $2,500
- 6. Hamilton County Library “Hamilton County Library Conference Room” – $1,839.85
- 7. Kismet Public Library Foundation “Kismet Public Library Furnishings” – $2,160
- 8. Leoti EMS “AHA Compliant CPR Manikins” – $1,946.45
- 9. Miles of Smiles “Recovering Redemption Collaboration Program” – $2,600
- 10. Noah’s Ark Preschool “Inclusive Playground Equipment” – $5,000
- 11. Satanta Area Arts Council “Creative Tribe” – $1,889
- 12. Silver Sage Renaissance Festival “Silver Sage Renaissance Festival” – $2,000
- 13. South Church of God “South Church of God Food Pantry” – $2,000
- 14. SparkWheel “Student Supports for GCHS” – $3,500
- 15. Special Olympics Kansas “Award Stations for Athletes” – $1,860
- 16. Stepping Stones Shelter “Stepping Stones Shelter” – $8,500
- 17. Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center “Trauma Informed Sexual Assault Training” – $3,250
In addition to the program grants, WKCF is awarding 1 Urgent Needs grant in the amount of $5,000 to Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas for emergency assistance.
WKCF also allocated 22 Christmas grants from its remaining grant funds for 2023. Each public library in WKCF’s 15-county service area will receive $1,000 for their children’s programs and resources.
An additional $1,500 grant will be awarded to the Dominican Sisters, Ministry of Presence based in Garden City, bringing the total amount in Christmas grants at $22,500.
