Editor’s Note: This article is one of a series of stories this month celebrating Downtown Garden City merchants and businesses.
Entering The Corner on Main recently, owner Andrea Kirchoff was setting up a snack counter with warm beverages for visitors right by the front door, next to a beautiful Christmas motif displaying portraits of Santa and stockings hanging from a mantle.

The scene provided a welcoming atmosphere that felt like more than a retail space, it felt like a gathering place, someone’s home even.
Located at 324 N. Main Street, The Corner on Main is a longtime downtown favorite with deep family roots.
Kirchoff represents the third generation of leadership, following in the footsteps of her grandmother and mother. Today, her children help in the store, creating the possibility of a fourth generation carrying on the tradition in the years ahead.
The business first took shape in the early 1990s, beginning as part of the Bernie Rose, a market-style collective that Kirchoff compared to what another downtown business, The Market Hub, is doing today.
The Corner on Main officially became its own business in 1996 and moved to its current corner spot in 2011. Kirchoff took over operations in 2008. She noted that the expanded space has made it much easier to display their wide selection of merchandise.
Kirchoff said her favorite part of running The Corner on Main is visiting with her regulars and working alongside her family.
The store specializes in home décor and gifts, and while wedding registries were once a major part of their business, customer demand has shifted over time in the face of online markets.
Today, Kirchoff has put more focus on made-to-order gift baskets, which have become a popular option for those looking for something personal and customized.
For questions or special requests, she encourages customers to reach out through The Corner on Main Facebook page. Their website, https://the-corner-on-main.square.site/, also provides a quick way to get in touch for any specific needs.
A visit to The Corner on Main during the holidays feels both relaxing and rewarding. The shop’s long, welcoming layout encourages you to browse at your own pace, and when you’ve found the right item, they offer complimentary gift wrapping to make gift-giving even easier. It’s a cozy, friendly experience that reflects the spirit of downtown.
